Beginning from the highly successful Eversendai Cup First Edition in Dubai in 2012, the Malaysian Football community, has continue to flourish and gained more crowd. This scene is apparent in particular Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Since then, numerous friendly matches were organized by the Malaysian football communities and have successfully engaged with other group of football communities from Indonesia, Singapore, India and even local club and private agency such as Al Wasl FC’s 3rd Division team and Serco Dubai.
“Kejohanan 3 Penjuru” is another manifesto that proved the strong presence of the Malaysian football community in the UAE. This event is a joint effort programme between My-UAE (Malaysian Community Association) with the 3 major Malaysian football communities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Al Ain, with strong support from Malaysian Embassy in Abu Dhabi & Malaysian Consulate in Dubai. The main co sponsors for the event are Eversendai & Media Prima along with Famous Amos and Prima Gold.
Abu Dhabi became the host city and the event took place in Zayed Sports City. The first match kicked-off at 5.15pm with the host city played against Al-Ain. The game started at a slow pace with both teams played a closed and cautious game and concluded the 1st half with a draw. Both teams started to gain momentum and the crowd witnessed strong offences and attacks from both sides. Abu Dhabi managed to take the lead for few minutes before Al-Ain equalized. Abu Dhabi capitalized the advantage as the home team and sealed the 1st match with a 3-1 win.
The 2nd game started almost immediately and Al Ain was forced through ‘coin tosses’ to play against Dubai team. Despite exhaustion from the previous match, Al Ain still managed to display a strong fighting spirit and created several chances in front of Dubai’s goal post. However, Dubai proved to be more superior in the defence and quick in drawing counter attacks that cost the exhausted Al Ain side dearly. The game was an easy 3-0 win for Dubai.
The final game started after a 20 minutes break for Maghrib prayer. Dubai versus Abu Dhabi has always been a close rivalry in almost all competitions for the past 5 years. Both teams are equally balanced in all departments and the crowd witnesses a good mixture of ball possessions, defending and attacking from both sides. Dubai was defeated 3-0 by the same team almost 6 months ago. Determined in winning against the same team, Dubai managed to seal the game 2-0 at full time. A sweet revenge indeed and Dubai walked home as the champion for Kejohanan 3 Penjuru.
The event ended with the price giving ceremony and closing speech by Malaysian Ambassador to Abu Dhabi himself Dato’ Ahmad Anwar Adnan.
